Relaxing after a game

After Pumpkin’s lacrosse game, the opposing team (perhaps had to wait for their bus) began to have fun in the gym .. ..

Weighty magnetic health hula hoop

I got this magnetic Health Hoop at the local Korean store for $19.99. The one with 98 projections cost $24.99, heavier.
I have never done hula hoop but can manage to do a few. Pumpkin loved it when she was little. Once we vacationed at Dominica Republic in an all-inclusive resort. In the night, they had some sort of entertainments for kids. One of them was getting kids on to the stage to do hula-hoop. Pumpkin went up, was the smallest kids but won. It looked so easy and nature to her.

Congratulations

Horay, Pumpkin made her lacrosse varsity team. Poor mom I waited for an hour, then saw the three smiling girls piled in and as I was driving, they were still giggling. Girls! pls get hold of yourself 🙂 hehehe .. Congratulations.

I knew she wanted it, after the JV or junior varsity circuit. She’s very disciplined and methodically goes about her business.

The bad news of the day is knows a good friend of ours has breast cancer. She discovered last Christmas during the routine mammogram. Fortunately it’s early stage. Our prayer is with her.

Treasure these you know and close.

The opposing team is having a good time. More pics on their last game on FB

The terrorist

the parking lot story .. June 2007 I’m always being unfairly targeted.
With my kids, I always have to be conscious, not to take picture of ..
.. the parking lot (Mom … it’s parking lot for pete’s sake!!)
.. of highway (what’s there to take, Mom?)
.. of them (oh … Mom .. give me a break will you??) ..
of bathroom

Actually on our last vacation, my family had unanimously agreed to vote me as the picture-terrorist, and would confiscate my camera.

The parking lot story .. and more pics of them together, even it just their backs ..

2009-11-7 at Marist College

2008 Aug Vancouver“Mom, if you behave nicely (like no more picture taking) we’ll give you back the toy and take you off the pic-terrorist list.” King told me.
Pumpkin would always patiently wait for me when we went out, while I was busy taking picture .. and laged behind. She worried that they might lose their mom.
Today we went without kids to the CitiField and thought we would stay together with the Hous. Because they’re equally pic-terrorists. To prove it, the husband has 20 cameras! He came armed with two today. But after few minutes, they decided to dump me cause I was too slow .. lagging behind .. 刘姥姥初进大观园 .. Sight .. sight.. the kids didn’t want me, now the adults didn’t want me either. Golfer had no way out, so he stuck with me. Maybe eyeing the sky when I was not looking -:).

Port Royal Racquet Club

The tennis club at Port Royal is part of Port Royal Golf Club. It has an USTA league or leagues. Today lady’s senior (50+) 3.5 played at the club – season opener. We watched a bit after our games. They were gracious in manner and generous with line calls, the southern belle’s hospitality? Their tennis bags are all frilly and pinkish. .. however, Hilton Head strikes me as more cosmo and sophisticate than many southern cities ..

Pumpkin asked if I would join a league, I first said no, that I have enough tennis groups to play with. But then I said that I won’t rule it out in the future – I did enjoy when I was with it. NY’s USTA leagues are definitely a different bred, with NY attitude, I can deal with it. The league play provides the competitiveness that I don’t find within my buddies.

The cat was cute. Always trying to find a way into the pro shop.

Quickly I found or formed my routine: swim 15 minutes then head to the drill (more of hitting) session with Dana, the Lion who reminds me of Todd Martin. He commented on my backhand that I was slow in bringing back the racquet. It registered. So this afternoon when I played with Pumpkin, I hit lots of backhands. It felt good. A process. Work in progress. We’ll see at beginning of the summer if my game has improved.

We left before the ladies. The cars at the parking lot are all premium brands. The setting of the island is very subdue and subtle. There aren’t loud facades or gates. If you come for the first time in the night, finding your resort can be a chore. There are riff raff on the island but I just don’t see them often.

Dana asked if my right wrist still hurt. Well. It does, feeling tender. Would not use it unless I have to. But it doesn’t feel hurting more. I ran more to hit a backhand than taking it forehand. My right ankle is hurting too. I should have sued the parking lot. Shheeeshi.

The golf course at Port Royal isn’t as nice as in Sea Pines. I found Sea Pines is the most desirable area of the island. King had a great day on the green. The weather was bit cloudy and rained briefly couple of times. So Golfer said they had the course to themselves and King got to play out all his rounds.

What a lucky day ..

I just had a very eventful day. I thought of taking the highway to NJ for a meeting. But opted for the local to drop off Pumpkin’s racket for restring.
11:30am. Sunny, pleasant, a typical autumn day. I was driving on the Northern Blvd and got pulled over. Offense? Broken break light on the passenger side. The young cop, Mr. Park walked over and looked at my car, shout: “Your inspection is expired too.” Ok, that’s my fault.
$85: $25+$60 fine plus surcharge.
It took him 15 minutes to write up my two summons that were illegible: later at the Precinct, the young cop couldn’t read my license plate from the yellow summon.

After the meeting, I got the light fixed and did the inspection. Then parked at the Chase parking lot, did my thing in the bank and dropped off the racket next door. When I returned 10 minutes later, there’s white note on my windshield. I normally don’t look around, but thank god I did. A motorist damaged my right front bumper. He left me a note. Two guys were in the parking lot, and one of them asked,
“Your car?” One of them interrupted his phone conversation, pointed to my car.
“Yes.. ”
“That’s the van .. the green one, just left ..” then he went back to his phone conversation.
I chased out. Because the note he left with his cell # was missing a digit. He was waiting for the traffic light.
“Sorry, stuff happens. Call me with repair, I’ll send you a check.” He then added the missing digit, and sped away.

Life goes on.

I went to the 111st Police Precinct to get the car inspected. Because Mr. Park stipulates that if I get the brake light fixed within 24 hours, the ticket will be dismissed. The PO at the desk, first told me he has no idea as what to do.
“Mail this to the court with the repair receipt.” He told me.
Darn, Joe didn’t give me a receipt.
“I think you are going to look at my car and give me a form ..” I suggested.
He looked really unwilling. Then he asked a secretary who came over, fish out a piece paper. The PO must be really green. He read the entire thing.
When we went out to inspect the car, he said,
“I can’t sign this. It isn’t fixed.” He pointed to the driver side. Somehow, I remembered the PO who handed me the summon, mentioned passenger side.
The young PO re-read the yellow summon and chuckled.
“I guess I’ll have to sign it since the summon is for the passenger side.”
“Pls don’t issue me another ticket .. I’ll fix the driver side as soon as possible.”
He agreed.

I capped the lucky day with 3:1 sets of win on the tennis court, with William. The only loss came when I played against him. Did I mention that I got lost in and out of NJ? That’s just the icing on the cake.

While waiting for the car to be fixed, I went to eat in Flushing when I wasn’t even hungry. In this little basement mall on Main Street. I had dumplings. Why can’t New York have a decent dumpling house like the one in Toronto?? Hope it does just I don’t know about it yet. Did I lose my mind by going into this dig? Maybe. But it tastes pretty good. Freshly made. I probably would go there again. On another lucky day. Let me consult the 黄历 first .. 🙂

Season finale

They had a winning season (8:2), concluded it on Monday with anthor win. Those little young ladies are tough cookies, and very confident. .. The opposing team had lots of snakes (mostly junk food) and didn’t pick up after themselves. I don’t understand why would coach buys junk food? Water/juice/chocolate/dried banana or apple .. are better than these chips/candy .. uhhhhrrrrrr ..

Oui .. our first win!

Pumpkin and I won our first match today, 4:6, 6:1 and 6:3!!! Wow .. that’s something we both cherished. This is our second time playing together. She serves much better now and plays with more confidence. The will to win she displayed was pronounced, which in turn got me going. We both won points on each other serves and set ups, that pleased us equally.  She doesn’t mind I’m talking [too much] and I loved that she pointed out that I stay in no man zone .. we’re a game, set and … match, :).  I’m just really ecstatic, playing with my girl .. heaven !!! !!! As usual, she refused to take a pic with me. Ah well, can’t have everything.
