{"id":1415,"date":"2008-01-30T10:42:19","date_gmt":"2008-01-30T14:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.IreneEng.com\/2008\/01\/30\/the-entitlement\/"},"modified":"2011-12-25T01:11:40","modified_gmt":"2011-12-25T01:11:40","slug":"the-entitlement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.ireneeng.com\/?p=1415","title":{"rendered":"The entitlement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One&#8217;s entitlement often\u00a0seems\u00a0inequality to others.\u00a0 Our badminton group has been playing together for years on this one court, relatively harmonic, even with\u00a0players come and go.\u00a0 There are no rules to govern but a sense of fairness.\u00a0 Before Michael, there was a Mr. Huang who&#8217;s responsible to\u00a0open\/close the door and set up the net, etc.\u00a0 When there are more than four players, which is the case most of time, we take turns.\u00a0 With six\u00a0players, the winning dual reminds on court for another set.\u00a0 Regardless win or lose, they vacant the court for others after two sets.\u00a0 This is one of the systems we set up without discussion.\u00a0 When there are more than eight players, we only get to play a set, then wait for the next round.\u00a0 Simple enough?\u00a0 Yes, for those fair minded.<\/p>\n<p>There is a player who often leaves early to pick up his wife, so\u00a0we always let him play 2-3 sets uninterrupted.\u00a0 Using a Hong Kong saying, we do\u00a0this is \u4eba\u60c5, make him wait just like the rest of\u00a0us is \u5e38\u60c5.\u00a0 You&#8217;d think he&#8217;s appreciative to our consideration.\u00a0 After all, we&#8217;re all busy with\u00a0pressing matters that we need to attend to.\u00a0<br \/>\nLast night, his wife called\u00a0for an early pick up just as we were about to begin.\u00a0 So he came back 45 minutes later to resume.  By that time we ballooned to\u00a0ten players already.\u00a0 He got on the court at the first turn.\u00a0\u00a0It ended quickly, a land slide game.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n&#8220;Let&#8217;s play a singles&#8221; he challenged Jordan.\u00a0<br \/>\nThat didn&#8217;t sit well with us.\u00a0<br \/>\nSammy said,<br \/>\n&#8220;Oh no, too many people, doubles only.&#8221;\u00a0<br \/>\nSo he played another set of doubles.\u00a0 When he played again after waiting for his turn, he didn&#8217;t want to leave, saying he didn&#8217;t sweat.\u00a0<br \/>\nSimon and Sam all got off the court.\u00a0<br \/>\nThere was a moment of stillness.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\nWe all try to be courteous to others, don&#8217;t want the confrontation.\u00a0<br \/>\nThe players he wanted to play with, walked off the court and stayed off.\u00a0<br \/>\nThey knew\u00a0it&#8217;s others&#8217; turn.\u00a0<br \/>\nI said out loud, &#8220;it&#8217;s girls turn.&#8221;\u00a0<br \/>\nKatie hadn&#8217;t played at all.\u00a0 Not so much as boys or girls, rather others turn.<\/p>\n<p>He stood\u00a0on the court,\u00a0 looking at Simon\/Sam,\u00a0didn&#8217;t want to leave.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Katie said graciously, &#8220;it&#8217;s ok, I&#8217;ll wait.&#8221;\u00a0<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s usual the case,\u00a0what\u00a0you can say?\u00a0 So, he got to play again.\u00a0<br \/>\nNot with Simon nor Sam, but with girls.\u00a0 Half through, he quitted.\u00a0<br \/>\n&#8220;I can&#8217;t play like this ..&#8221;\u00a0<br \/>\nBy far, Simon is the better player and he had no qualm playing with the girls or weaker player.\u00a0 Same goes with Sam.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s interesting to see\u00a0next time. ..\u00a0What a\u00a0\u516b\u5a46 gossip-monger \ud83d\ude42 ..
