Baseball or softball\u00a0isn\u2019t a foreign sport<\/a>, I played it in primary school in the middle 70s in Beijing, Zhongguancun Erxiao \u4e2d\u5173\u6751\u4e8c\u5c0f<\/a> as past of physical education, in our front yard.\u00a0 The positions weren’t as clearly defined as in MLB.\u00a0 Not sure Mao banned it.\u00a0 I enjoyed it a lot.\u00a0 To my dismay, once a class had to be canceled because US president Ford was to visit the Summer Palace and our school was at the corner of the route in Zhongguancun.\u00a0 Our school was even considering to ban few students (who always failed)\u00a0from attending schools during the period.\u00a0 The article’s assertion that 150,000 people play seemed low,\u00a0 I played, so did my g\/f who attended\u00a0Qinghua\u00a0University fm 1980-85 played as part of phy\u00a0ed – two years basic and then one year specialized\u00a0(\u4e24\u5e74\u57fa\u7840\u4f53\u80b2\u8bfe,\u7136\u540e\u4e00\u5e74\u4e13\u9879\u4f53\u80b2\u8bfe) – just to name two, and we weren’t athletes.\u00a0\u00a0One of my classmates played tennis at sport school in Sichuan, she gave it up once she moved to Beijing.\u00a0 At the time, late 70s, sports could not compete with\u00a0A+ and getting into a top college. True that we played a lot of ping pong and badminton in China, but let\u2019s face it, baseball is a slow sport, can be really boring.\u00a0 Despite the love I have for the game, but\u00a0I have no patient to watch it, ice hockey and football are the spectator sport.\u00a0 Remember back in the autumn 1986, I was awaken by the sound of cheers, honking, beer bottle chattering on the street in the middle of the night.\u00a0 Ha, Mets just won.\u00a0 The following day, every one were talking about the Mets and its win.\u00a0 It still couldn’t move me to watch.\u00a0 One game per season is my max tolerance.\u00a0 When Jack was around, Golfer’s buddy, I did go to Central Park to play pick up game with him.\u00a0 First time, the team captain complained that he didn’t want a girl on his team.\u00a0 Jack told him, “too bad ..\u00a0she waited for her turn ..”\u00a0 Grumpily, the huge guy took me.\u00a0 It turned out, I was pretty good at bat\u00a0but a lousy fielder, :).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
