{"id":45535,"date":"2023-04-04T12:20:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-04T12:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.ireneeng.com\/?p=45535"},"modified":"2025-01-21T20:05:58","modified_gmt":"2025-01-21T20:05:58","slug":"points-and-bid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.ireneeng.com\/?p=45535","title":{"rendered":"Bid \u53eb\u724c &amp; response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bidding starts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.ireneeng.com\/?p=44977\">each hand<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.ireneeng.com\/?p=46559\">the points<\/a> (hcp and or long\/short suit) determine how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.ireneeng.com\/?p=45535\">you bid<\/a>, or not.<\/p>\n<p>The basic rule for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.cmu.edu\/~hde\/bidding.htm\">opening bid<\/a> in each level, w\/ hcp:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>NT 16-18; suit: 12-13 (&#x2666;&#xfe0f;&#x2663;&#xfe0f;: 3; &#x2660;&#xfe0f;&#x2665;&#xfe0f; 5 in suit)<\/li>\n<li>NT 21-23; suit: 22 hcp in &#x2660;&#xfe0f;&#x2665;&#xfe0f;&#x2666;&#xfe0f;&#x2663;&#xfe0f; <span style=\"color: #999999;\">5 card suit<\/span><\/li>\n<li>of a suit: Preemptive; weak (5-9 hcp) 7-card suit<\/li>\n<li>of a suit: Preemptive; weak (6-10 hcp) 8-card suit; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.ireneeng.com\/?p=46556\">NT<\/a><\/li>\n<li>NT <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.ireneeng.com\/?p=46556\">slam bid<\/a> asking for kings<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.ireneeng.com\/?p=45471\">Conventions<\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: revert;\">are used in bidding. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Responses <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.cmu.edu\/~hde\/bidding.htm\">Responses<\/a> to partner&#8217;s 1NT opening bid: (Responses to a 2NT opening bid are the same, except 2NT 3C is Stayman)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pass<\/strong>: Normal if game is out of reach, unless 2D 2H or 2S is a safer contract.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2C<\/strong> is Stayman, promising some 4+ card major and asking partner to bid her 4-card major (2H or 2S) if she has one, otherwise to bid 2D. You can subsequently shift to a major to show a 5-card suit and invite game.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2D<\/strong>, <strong>2H<\/strong>, or <strong>2S<\/strong> is a sign-off; partner must pass.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2NT<\/strong> is invitational to 3NT; partner will raise if at the high end of her 16-18.<\/li>\n<li><strong>3-of-a-suit<\/strong> is forcing. Partner will raise with 3+ card support, and otherwise bid 3NT.<\/li>\n<li><strong>3NT<\/strong> or <strong>4H<\/strong> or <strong>4S<\/strong> is a sign-off in game.<\/li>\n<li><strong>4C<\/strong> is Gerber, <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">asking for aces<\/span>. Partner responds 4D with 0 or 4 aces, 4H with 1, 4S with 2, 4NT with 3.<\/li>\n<li><strong>4NT<\/strong> is invitational to 6NT (This is quantitative, not Blackwood.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Responses to partner&#8217;s 1-of-a-suit bid<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pass<\/strong> with 0-5 points.<\/li>\n<li><sup>1H \u2192 <\/sup><strong>2H<\/strong>\u00a0= 6-10 points and support in the suit (8+ cards between you)<\/li>\n<li><sup>1H \u2192 <\/sup><strong>3H <\/strong>= force a game, 13 points and support.<\/li>\n<li><sup>1H \u2192 \u00a0<\/sup><strong>4H <\/strong>= is a sign-off, indicating a weak hand but with many trumps.<\/li>\n<li><sup>1H \u2192 \u00a0<\/sup><strong>1S<\/strong> = 6-18 points, and 4+ cards in the suit. Forcing, i.e. don&#8217;t let the bidding stop there.<\/li>\n<li><sup>1H \u2192 \u00a0<\/sup><strong>2C<\/strong>\u00a0= 10-18 points, and 4+ cards in the suit. Forcing (except by passed hand).<\/li>\n<li><sup>1H \u2192 <\/sup><strong>2S<\/strong> = 19+ points. Forcing to game, and slam is likely.<\/li>\n<li><sup>1H \u2192 <\/sup><strong>1NT <\/strong>=: 6-9 points, no fit in partner&#8217;s suit, no other suit that can be bid at one level. Not necessarily balanced.<\/li>\n<li><sup>1H \u2192 <\/sup><strong>2NT<\/strong> = 13-15 points and a balanced hand, and usually no 4+ card major suits.<\/li>\n<li><sup>1H \u2192 <\/sup><strong>3NT<\/strong> = 16-18 points and a balanced hand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bidding starts each hand, and the points (hcp and or long\/short suit) determine how you bid, or not.
