Music chair pickleball

A fun evening with pickleball!

No scoring.

Someone reminded me: no lob, no smackdown. But many do lob and smack down: at our level, we play by instinct more than skill becasue we just don’t have the control.

6-0, 7-6

pronate, only in practice

No doubt on court condition (no rain in the past few hours) but a messed up line up begins the day. After swim, I spotted Graham, who’s getting out of his car. Oh … now we’ve five players.

With Graham, we dished out a bagel to G and Sally.

With Hope, we won 7-6 7:5 v two Gs.

A hard fought win

With Randi, we won 6-3, 7-6 7-5. v Punni and Graham, who’s still in the cloud.

I’ve an unbelievably large number of double faults, both over- and underhand. No one held their serve for the first four games in the first set. My single-handed backhand cross-court drop shot by the net won the tie break, finally, especially in light of my drop shots not working for the past few days.

… lost my serve

F1 the movie, 2025

This film (@ AMC) featuring Brad Pitt (Sonny Hayes), is about an aging driver who drives, that includes for Formula One.

A pretty good movie.

The speed makes the film enjoyable. One might appreciates it more if knows something about F1 racing, or auto racing.

Lewis Hamilton (1985-) who’s a Sir now, made a cameo role apparence. Michale Schumaker () and Ayrton Senna (1960-94) are mentioned.

The team has a female technical director who designs the car.

Another female plays the crew member who changes wheels during the pit stops: not sure she’s up to it.

Victoria Mboko, 2006

Victoria Mboko (2006.8.26-; ? $1,256,948) is heavily touted on women’s tour lately, rising from 300+ to seeded 22 player at US Open 2025.

She wore a red outfit that looks smarshingly smart and beaufiul. However, she didn’t play well …

I’m happy that Barbora Krejcikova has won. The match looks lame, no fighting spirit – perhaps not needed: Mboko has double digit double faults.

US Open 2025, day 1 & 2

This year US Open starts on Sunday Aug 24th, instead Mondays in the past.

The mixed doubles were played ahead of the main draw opening, on Aug 19 and 20. Essentially, taking away the normal mixed doubles players’ oppertunity.

I’ve my tv on all the time, watching the mutiple courts coverage. It streams on Disney→espn: streaming is a complecated business and I don’t even want to know!

Day 1, Sunday 8.24

  • Ben Shelton def Ignacio Buse (2004-; $282,522) 3, 2, 4
  • Ben Bonzi (1996-; $3,468,947) def Medvedev (1996-; $46,936,309) in 5 sets
  • B Nakashima d. J. De Jong in 5
  • M Giron d. M Navone
  • Z. Svajda d. Z. Piros 4, 2, 5
  • Taylor Fritz d E. Nava 5, 2, 3
  • E. Spizzirri d. S. Dostanic 5, 4, 6
  • Pegula d. M Sherif 0, 4
  • Bencic d. Zhang Shuai 3, 3
  • Ostapenko d. X Wang 4, 3
  • McCartney Kessler d. Magda Linette 5, 5
  • Janice Tjen (2002-; 2018, $82,632) d. Kudermetova in 3

Day 2, Monday 8.25

  • Barbora Krejcikova d. Victoria Mboko 3, 2
  • Frances Tiafoe d. Yoshihito Nishioka 3, 6, 3
  • Renata Zarazua d. Madison Keys in 3
  • Coleman Wang d. Aleksander Kovacevic 4, 5, 6

There are few players from the countries that I don’t see often:

  • Colrmsn Wong of Hong Kong
  • Janice Tjen of Indonesia
  • Victoria Kasintseva of Andorra, a qualifer

Madison Keys looks smart and fit, and has match point …

Yoshihito Nishioka (西岡 良仁; 1995-; 2014, $6,926,298) acts like a 12-year-old or a brat: stomping his feet and destroying his racket when the point didn’t go his way.  Practice more to get better at the game!

An orange skies

An orange red sky: beautiful!

Tennis 6-1, 3-6.

My dropshots didn’t work well today. So Jing said, “I love your forehand!” How nice she put it that way -:)

My serve still has the waiters tray

Rainbow and downpour

The day starts out nice. I see the sandhill cranes by the pond, again. Then there is a raibow.

Then came the rain. Drizzle first. Raindrops. Then the downpour.

🎾 1-6, 4-3 w/ a break

From rainbow to downpour
从彩虹到倾盆大雨
彻底灭了继续的幻想

第一局差点被鸡蛋了.
今天准备齐全 不过腕带令到胳膊骤短
没啥空间可言了

Wilson: utc Sarasota

140 University Town Center Dr #245,
Sarasota, FL 34243

Google Maps

Will return for the good old-fashioned salesmanship. Buying online for too long, I do appreciate the knowledge the gentleman at the shop provides: thank you.

It’s the back-to-school tax holiday in Florida now. The store is pleasant, well lighted, and the merchandises are neatly placed.

This store is one of 16 or 18 Wilson stores in the country, which was opened in May 2025 because of the popularity of tennis in the area. IMG Academy is here.

They don’t have the US Open 2025 merchandise yet, other than the bag. I bought a few outfits at the US Open in Flushing in the past, and most or all of them were not yet rolled out in the stores.

I don’t know which players are sponsored by Wilson. The gent said, the quality of the clothing, Wilson is above Nike and Nike is above Under Armour.

They’ve hot pink/red jacket that looks like Lululemon’s.

One of the rackets, with a light aqua color, is very pretty. So I picked it up. He, instead, introduced a neon dark blue one that is less than 10 oz: it has power, control, and spin. Oh so good … I didn’t buy, only because I’m still happy with my two old Babolat: red white Roland Garros (2011 after Li Na won the French Open), and blue black Pure Drive Team, which is a hand me down.

The shrimp player

Today, our next court has six elderly men who rotate. One of them has a severe hunchback. This photo showed him in a better posture.

Two thoughts.

I admire him and them for still getting out there and hitting the balls: would I be still playing at his age? Hopefully!

Two, I had played against a solid 4.0 player who served like shrimp but had a straight back; who looks like PhD comedian Joe Wong (黄西, 1970-): skinny, glasses, poker face.

Ok, to my tennis:

  1. w/ Punni, 0-5
  2. w/ Matt, 5-1
  3. w/ Cheri, 4-5
