Camila Giorgi 卡米拉·乔治, 1991

Camila Giorgi (1991-; 2006; $5m) is the Italian player I like, not for her playing – three career titles and her highest rank was #26 in 2018, but for her court outfits: always pretty and tasteful.

This year in Paris, however, someone finds her commercial logo too beg, and the chair umpire Jennifer Zhang (a Beijing native) told her to change, on court, right before her match against Arena Sabalenka the screamer (au.sport; ). Thanks lord she won the match.

Are you kidding me? Go get a life.

She lost in the 4th round, to Russian Daria Kasatkina (1997-; 2014; $7.5m) 2 and 2.

Before the start of the tourney, Amélie Mauresmo (1979-; 1993; $15m), the current director and former player with two slams, has said flatly that no pro Putin comment is allowed and the Russian players will not have their flags displayed next to their names. Right or wrong I think it besides the point, but the overwhelming sentiment to support Ukraine is obvious.

Iga Świątek def Zheng Qinwen

Iga Świątek (2001-; 2016; $8,929,786) def Zheng Qinwen (郑钦文 2002-; $) in three sets at 2022 French Open.

A pretty good 🎾 match: Iga is the hottest girl on women’s tour and Zheng is the hottest tennis girl from China, and the tallest 6.1’/1.85m. They’re one year apart but the careers are farther apart.

However, Zheng was able to closed out the first set – Iga was pretty upset with herself. But after that, it was all Iga, the last year’s champion.

Iga Świątek (3⃣️ 伊加·斯维泰克 2001-; $9m) def Zheng Qinwen (郑钦文; 2002-; $0.5m >> 0.296+.273) in three.

Coco Gauff def Sloane Stephens

What a good match!

Coco Gauff (2004-; $3,159,857) def Sloane Stephens (1993-; 2009; $16m), into her first semi at a slam: a shoutout for her.

Coco always reminds me of ‘Little Dancer of Fourteen Years’ by French Impressionist Edgar Degas. Today’s outfit only enhances that impression (colors could have been better)

French Open 2022

May 16–Jun 6, 2022; €43.6m/$66.8m: $3.35m to the singles

Roland Garros is still not using hawkeye, the same argument that the ball leaves a mark on the court. So old and nonsense, it’s the human error, specifically the chair umpire’s errors that are the most irritating, disgusting in this high stake tourney. Remembering what happened to Barbora Krejčíková last year?

At Iga vs Zheng Qinwen match, they showed a group of men who wear the similar blue t shirts, each with a different country on the back …

ha ha ha very international

During this year’s matches, again, I’ve seen plenty bad line calls by the chair umpires. One was Madison Keys vs Veronika Kudermetova, when the later served an out ball but was called an ace. Oh well, they’re French.

Goalie Lundqvist

Rangers’ goaltender Henrik Lundqvist (1982-) had retired and his number 30 is officially retired on January 28, 2022. He was drafted by Rangers in 2000 205th overall and player for the team from 2001-2020. The first overall pick in 2000 was also a goalie by Islanders, Rick DiPietro – same position with two different career outcomes.

The goal keep cut a dashing figure in New York, always dressed to the nine. He jams with John McEnroe who presented him a guitar at MSG.

The fight strap

There was a movie named Fight Club (1999) with Brad Pitt and Ed Norton. In ice hockey, there is fight strap: a white elastic band attachment to the back bottom of NHL jersey. It measures 8.5″ x 1.5″, attaches to the pant, to prevent being pull off or cover their heads during a fight -:). Evidently, fighting is part of the game in NHL.

#79 Alexei Yashin (1973-) is one of popular players on Islanders’ team. He dated Carol Alt (1960-), a model.

What to do when you’ve too many gears – rackets, or team jerseys? Selling them isn’t a bad idea. The orange color jersey sold for $40.

My first Pickleball tourney @ USTA

APP (the Franklin NYC Open, May 25-29) at Flushing Meadows, New York, the venue of US Open, home to tennis.

as it turned out, Byron runs it

This is the first Pickleball tournament I attended. Nearly exactly eight year ago, New York Times had an article, A Funny Name, a Serious Sport. Pickleball, Anyone?

Well, they’re not exact has arrived but is getting notice. Many my tennis friends have taken it up and I was introduced to it by a tennis buddy. Today, I see plenty of my tennis friends there, most of them are volunteering. The ticket is $20 per head (with fees and sales tax comes to $22.5), through TicketMaster – for once, it doesn’t charge an arm and leg. For some reason, their scanner wasn’t working, so they let us in.

The prize purse is $125,000the largest prize purse of any pickleball tournament where no appearance fees are included.

The venue is hosting two events today. The other one is Yeshiva University’s commencement, which is taking place at Arthur Ashe’s Center Court.

The Globe Unisphere at the park, looks wonderful.
