2013 US Open day 2
The 17 years old Victoria Duval made our day. When we got to Louis Armstrong stadium, half the crowd was cheering for 2011 champ Sam Stosur. The girl soon lost the first set. As the match progressed more Sam fan became Vicky fan. By the end, the whole stadium was rocking and got behind her. In third set, she closed out the match on her fourth deuce, here is her winning forehand that sealed her victory. Her match point.

Where have I been? According to Hanna, Tommy boy is very popular with women. I had no idea. But I soon found out Hanna was right. Four Aussie ladies behind me yelled their hearts out for him. More pix of Haas and Monfils on FB
The Romanian player Ungur has awesome single hand backhand (here the flash player is needed on this link) but he was no match for the goofy Monfils. The gofer had no time to goofy around because the match was over quickly.
Michael Tirico with Mary Jo Fernandez left the stadium as we were leaving too. Mike is shorter than Mary Jo.
but he was no match for the goofy Monfils. The gofer had no time to goofy around because the match was over quickly.

Mandy Minella ALMOST pulled off the BIG upset of Sloane Stevens at the Stadium, that’s some match.

US Open 2013 qualifying round day 3
This year they converted the pro shop into a book store. Rained in the early afternoon around 1:30 but play resumed soon after. Ran into many friends and we ended up stayed till 11:30, drinking and eating. We left when Zhang Shuai was 4:2 in the second (she lost first set to Coco).
Bobby Ginepri lost to Bevvarman
Jamie Loeb lost on court 17
Don Young won on court 17. The loser Marc Gicquel lingered after the match for a long while and tried to pick a fight with a fan. Geeee…
Zhang Shuai on court 11 vs Coco Vandeweghe. Zhang and Young are annual plants in the qualifying round. Zhang in 2009, more in 2009, and 2012
All in all eleven Americans advanced to the last round tomorrow.
US Open 2013, qualifying round, day 2
The ground wad ready for the event. Food vendors were open. The most ready I’ve seen so far. Shuttle buses are running. Security guards by the entrance. Bobby was leading by a break in the first set when got there. Hope we didn’t jinxed him. Caught the last game of men’s where the American in yellow top lost too. We left when Alexandra “Allie” Kiick was leading on court 17 vs Hibi who plays with single hand back hand. Kiick eventually lost to M. Hibi with 2 : 1 (6 : 3) (3 : 6) (6 : 1) Sets. Not a good day for the Americans.

A dude with little camera. A professional? He certainly looks like one ..
Night 2 at 2011 US Open: Petra Martic
First round match, women singles Petra Martic vs Bardora Zahlavova. Martic looks like a well put together girl, carries herself confidently; on the skinny side thou. She lost first set 5-7. So the third set was contentious. It’s a comfortable win for her, even when she served out the match, see below.
