Speedos

Heading to Flushing is a joy now, even it is still dirty, crowded and smell bad.  The new pool made me eager to go.  The locker is very jammed, short benches were always full with bags and stuff, we basically got on top of each other!  The floor is always watery.  A cleaner comes in from time to time, she does it pretty nastily, splatter all over the place.  That reminds me of the new Equinox opened in our town.  that I tried out.  The cleaners would mop away a single sweat quickly and quietly, as if they were invisible.  Of course, there is the initiation fee $150 and $110 per month ..

When it first opened, the water heater wasn’t working, the water was cold.  To me, it’s heaven, not only I had the pool all to myself, I even shed couple of minutes off of my 40 laps run – that’s a lot.  I was just about to join, then on the fouth day, the heater worked properly and the temperture jumped to 85° or so, aqua classes began and many walkers started to show up.  So that ended my run.

Back to Flushing pool.  It’s only $75 per year, bring your own shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and towel. Oh, no steam room either. .. .. some slow swimmers would clog the lane!  Don’t they have the slightest of coutesy?  Many Asians.  Haven’t seen this many naked Asian women and Speedos.  Why Americans don’t like Speedo?

When I took the kids to swim in Beijing, one young guy working there seemed very friendly to us and volunteered to help King.  But on our third visit there, he was bit annoyed, “ok, this is the last time I’ll allow him to wear this shorts.”  King had on a bright yellow bathsuit – long, baggy like homeboy.
“?? This IS a swimsuit.” I told him.
He’s mad now. “What do you take me for? Haven’t I been nice to him?”
??
“You think I don’t know any better? .. Just becasue you’re from America? .. ..”
Lord, wait a second. I wasn’t thinking. Looked around the pool, everyone had those speedos, if not the Speedo, it would still be tight, short and slinky..  So the next day I bought him a Speedo.  And I was told “Mom, it’s too small!”

It seems only US uses inches and the rest of the world is using metrics ..the Americans use pj for swimming, while the Europeans and Asians are into the sexy and slinky Speedos, And it’s American men getting caught while their pants down.  Hmmmm ..

Ethnic minorities in China

Tibet is only one of 55 ethnic minorities in China, totalling 123m, or 9% to han Chinese.  I was reading the dream theater forums, someone there mentioned that “fuck tibet, there are many minorities suffering in china that don’t get any attention because they don’t have a rockstar lama in orange filling stadiums.” ha ha ha .. he’s right on the cue.  If the human rights are so concerned with repression, have they checked on other 54 groups yet?  Bet they don’t get much of press for doing so .. so no donation would pouring in .. so not worth doing it. What’s the agenda behind this Tibet thing, and who’s behind it? Thought of Martha Burk (be sure to read on the comments that followed) at the Augusta in 2003, protesting all-male membership policy? Give me a break – you give women a bad name!! Why doesn’t she shelter few working girls or starving young mothers or abused wives?  Forcing a private club to change its rule?  Isn’t America still a free country?

2015.01.25: Australian Open is going on right now. Tennis and golf are two handful sports where women are paid, in general, as much as men.
Although I don’t play and follow golf. But I did know when Martha Burk picketing the Augusta National Golf Club in 2003, see above.
For women in tennis, they’re paid on equal footing as the men. But they play best of three sets. Not sure it’s the right thing to do. Why don’t they change to best of five, at least for the last two rounds, semi and final? If you ask paid as much as men, you should be doing as much as men too, period.

Matrimonial Advice From A Considerate Husband

It is  important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder  for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were  younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are oversensitive, and there’s nothing worse than an over sensitive woman.

My name is Jeff.  Let me relate how I handled the situation  with my wife, Susie.Since I retired several years ago, it has  become necessary for Susie to get a full-time job along with her part-time  job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we  needed.

Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was  beginning to show her age. I usually get home from the golf club about the  same time she gets home from work.Although she knows how hungry I  am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before  she starts dinner. I don’t yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her  time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have  lunch in the Men’s Grill at the club so eating out is not reasonable. I’m  ready for some home-cooked g rub when I hit that door.

She used to  do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it’s not unusual for  them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner. I do what I can  by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won’t  clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to  motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

Another  symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example she will say that it  is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her  lunch hour. But, boys, we take ’em for better or worse, so I just smile  and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even  three Edays. That way she won’t have to rush so much. I also remind her  that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn’t hurt her any (if you  know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong  points. When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more  rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half finished  mowing the yard.

I try not to make a scene. I’m a fair man. I tell her to  fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just  sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as  well make one for me too.I know that I probably look like a saint  in the way I support Susie. I’m not saying that showing this much  consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it  impossible!

Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as  they get older. However, guys, even if you just use a little more  tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will  consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we are put on  this earth to help each other.Sincerely,  Jeff

EDITOR’S  NOTE:

Jeff  died suddenly on March 1 of a perforated rectum. The police report says he  was found with a Calloway extra long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf  club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip showing and a  sledge hammer laying nearby. His wife Susie was arrested and  charged with murder. The all-woman jury took only 15 minutes to find her  Not Guilty, accepting her defence that Jeff somehow, without looking,  accidentally sat down on his golf club.

A new pool in Flushing

A little sorrow reminder that we lost 2012 Olympic to London, but this pool at Flushing Meadow near the US Open is great.  Check it out.  I felt like idiot that the whole thing built right under my nose and I had no idea.  I pulled into the parking lot under the high way, did I spot it – I drove by there hundred times!  As I walked toward the door, I couldn’t contain my joy, greeting everyone that crossed my path, they must think that I’m an escapee from the mental hospital.

a rm w vu; Jan

It’s very similar to the one at Eisenhower Park, modern and spacious, and divided into small sections!!  So quintessential American.  It has the largest land and biggest wallet and their swimmers bring home gold, yet their pools are normally half the standard Olympic size: I just don’t get it!!!!  Pls some one light me up on this???

Jan 12, 2011

The locker room is small, feeling jammed with few small lockers!  I only got to do 20 laps because got to go to meet my Park Aveneue guy.  The wait to get a membership was long, even there weren’t that many applicants.  Now I’ll have a place to swim while the one I usually go to is under face lift – 塞翁失马 奄之非福?

Tiger’s challenger

Why there are so many world class Korean golfers around, given the size of their entire population, which only estimated at little less than 50 millions?  Hard driving and ball-sy?  One of friends loved to tell this story: he went out alone to play the Bethpage Black where it hosted US Open in 2002 (will host it again in 2009), got paired up with a sole Korean woman who apologized in broken English, upon meeting him, “sorry I’m not very good.”  The 6 footer Irish replied – half jokingly, “I’m not good either” took the little woman’s declaration at face value.  Few holes into the difficult course, he was out played at every single turn.  At third hole, she became impatient and turned to him, “you’re right, you’re not very good .. .. not at all.”

We shall not discuss the color of his face, nor the psychological devastation he suffered ever since.

Ever heard of Anthony Kim?  Not yet?  Well, soon you will.  He has the swing as well as the mental toughness and has won.  Going out to a public golf course here, the chances are you’ll run into Koreans, and they aren’t very well liked.  But on tours, you’ll see plenty of them, especially the LPGA.  Obviously they love the game and know it.  How many women would go out there playing by herself?  Kim’s father often reduced him to tears, would throw out his 2nd place finish or over-par first place troph.  Many over bearing fathers ruin their kids’ career, but Kim’s dad seemed didn’t – built up his mental toughness?  Oh well, good for him. .. Maybe we should call him Jaguar – he’s only 5,10″ and 160 lb.

The Spring break tennis

Surprisingly I met a group of girls from Maryland at the Massanutten in Virginia.  This resort at Shenandoah Valley is neither known for golfers nor tennis players.  It used to have a 9-hole short course now expanded into 18 holes and an 18-hole.  The short course was much nicer before the expansion, now inter-linked with roads.  Golfers have to keep eyes on the coming and going cars!  The short course was perfect for the area.  Not sure what behind the thinking to expand.  King played with Golfer, and he would have been much happier if the cours was 9-hole.

The Massanutten have 8 tennis courts, 4 for the owners and 4 for the visiting/exchanging guests.  The courts are scattered around, in need of some TLC.  The four for the visitors, 3 are being renovated, which leaves one for the entire vast valley.  How charming.  I didn’t know that they reserve 4 for the owners only till I played on it.

Pumpkin and I were playing on the court next to the MD girls.  During our water break, one of the Maryland girls, Robyn came over asking if we’d like to play doubles.  Sure.  It was the very first time that Pumpkin and I played as partners.  Oh the joy!  My arm wasn’t painful any more, or I forgot.  I haven’t been serving since January, now I have no problem [or no choice but] serving, :).  Was it dream come true to play with Pumpkin?  You bet.  Despite we lost 6:2 easily, I loved every minutes of it!!  This group of MD girls play on the same or adverary teams one time or another.  Some are 3.5 and few are 4.0.  They took turns to beat me, :))).  Ree said she’ll probably do the MS ride with me this October!  Lets go girls!!

The Patrick girls

Danica has finally won, after 50 starts.  She paid her dues, so its well deserved win.  No longer just another Anna Kournikova but a champ.  Hmmmm .. .. Anna competed with the girls and Danica with the boys.  (Where is the other Patrick girl, Tera?  I read about her in the Village Voice years ago, found her to be very attractive, a couple of classes above her peers.  Then another year or two passed, one day I came across her again, by chance saw her on a NY channel TV with her boyfriend, sporting a army outfit, in support of the troops in Iraq.  The only thing set me off was she’s done the implant, enlarged her pretty breasts – very ugly.  Why would she do that is beyond me!)

Golfer Lorena Ochoa had win four titles in four weeks.  Many in golf community, both men and women feel she could compete in PGA but she chose not to.  She isn’t pretty or striking as Wei, so there isn’t much buzz about her.  Perhaps also the fact she’s not an American.

Before I lost myself here, I’d better make the point ..

1. Everyone needs to pay her/his dues.  Michelle Wei hasn’t won a single title, just jumped into PGA.  For pete’s sake, Tiger Woods won 3 amateur titles before he turned pro.  Now attending Stanford, Wei can’t even play on the school team, because she’d turned pro.  What a screw up!  Many players in golf as well as spectators are kind of glad, cause Wei bully her way around and that wasn’t pretty.  Daddy Wei, pls call Richard Williams and learn a thing or two, will you?  Not that I like Richard (the dancing ..) but he has my respect for bringing up two very happy and successful daughters.

2. Don’t know if any one noticed the media would play up a good looking female athlete regardless she’s won a title or not.  But when it comes to a male athlete, the media treat the pretty boys very differently.  Lance Armstrong is very good looking, Scott Adam is handsome, but I don’t see the media play up their looks. .. .. If this is the way surpose to be, then why are male bosses mindful when they complimenting on female employees ..  Light me up Scott .. Am I missing something here?

The last supper

好景不长在 好花不长开? .. Our pool (the Town of North Hempstead at Michael J. Tully Park) will be closed for renovation starting next Friday.  Estimate 15 months. Sight.  I’ve been having great runs there.  Who knows how long does it take.  I didn’t get to swim before tennis today, but felt tired.  Swimming does pup me up, not tire me out.  When we did valley with Wah, I hardly moved my feet.  He joked, “it’s your arm hurt, now you claim your feet hurts too?”  Ya, something like that, :).  Lazy.  I meant to go to the pool just one more time!  We tend to take thing for granted when it is there.  I didn’t go there for over a year.  Now it’s going to be gone for a while, and I felt sad.

The following three photos ⇓ are on 2021.11.03: I began to swim here again

During change overs on the court, the other players were talking about the new pool just opened in Flushing.  I was checking out the LA Fitness and Equinox.  LA Fitness told me that they don’t give price out over the phone, “you have to come in.”  Wow, the fitness centers joint the salesmanship also?  So be it.  She relent.

“The initiation fee is from $100-$299 and monthly varies too.”

“Like what?”

“You’ll have to come in.”

I never went becasue I hate when people waste my time.
