No troubled water

7am at the club, the pool is empty. The calm water feels eerie .. ha ha ha .. no, feels great. Dive in for a few laps.

At Columbus Circle

Our club’s pool was leaking, it has been under going repair multiple times recently. This last time, they closed it for over two weeks. We can go to other club during the stressful time.

This one is at the basement. Feeling a bit jammed, understandable, its in the city. They have a life guard at the pool. A little over the board?

A double V Day

It’s been snowing a lot lately, and the snow on the ground has been staying put. However, today, Valentine’s Day and 元宵节, weather turned nice, well over 40 degrees that I enjoyed reading with a cup of latte out door. So so nice!

The water temperature at pool at the club is wonderful too – 76 degrees (24) – being fixed for leak. Guess it’s a fresh water and they won’t keep it this low, unfortunately. (Update: the pool was closed. The following date, 2/15, the temperature rose to 82 and is open.)

The pool

The club closed the pool for a few days in December. The empty one was on Dec 26 and the filled one was on Dec 31.

Where’s the common courtesy?

A normal day at the gym. Swimming pool was bit chaotic, with a woman so inconsiderate and the club manager seemed powerless to do anything about it.

Am I a racist?

The Pool was pretty empty – I was alone. 34 laps into my 40-lap run and feeling great. Then a swimmer came into my lane without noticing me – we almost collided. I stopped at the end waiting for him:
“circle or taking side?”
Side he wanted.
“Please let the swimmer know before you enter the lane – its dangerous.”
He’s an older man who wore his black bathing cap like army beret: one side was higher than the other. He spoke with an accent. My immediate thought was: no wonder, the rude foreigner.
Does this consititue racist? The last time I felt unsafe was caused by an American.

There is a pair of guys who always come to swim together. One is skinny with curly hair and one stocky with crew cut. They do laps but often they like to chat while parallel kicking with a board. It’s fine in an empty lane, or with a slow swimmer who does everything except free style – they can see. BUT it’s annoying and dangerous when people doing laps in free. I walked to the lane, the three (one lady) were all doing laps. Both side lanes had two slow swimmers which made circling impossible. One guy was on desk striping, getting ready to swim. As courtesy, I informed all of them that I’m going to join the lane. One of the guys asked,
“Why can’t you join the other lane ..?”
“I prefer this lane.” I replied. One of the side lane would soon have threesome too.
About a dozen laps later, I bumped someone. And bumped someone again on my way back. This was too frequent. I took off my goggles at the end, and saw the two leisurely paralleling down the lane. The lady was still doing her laps in free style.
Hey guys, please have some common courtesy??
