Popied in Hilton Head

And it’s only 11am.

The Dow is going down the tube. All the talking heads are, well, talking. Hey, talkers, we’ve seen the triple digit ups and downs all the time, pls don’t make big deal out of it?

Got up early, did few laps in the out door pool and biked to Port Royal Racquet for the 9-10am hitting session. Yesterday when we played, the pro who looked like a fisherman with the umbrella shaped hat came out inviting us to join his drill. I couldn’t get Pumpkin up in the morning – I tried but unsuccessful. Ended up I was the only one there. The club has 10 clay, really har-tru and 4 hard courts. They used to have a grass too. The pro, ok .. he’s kinda cute, bad teeth with a grunt I’ve never heard of on court .. kinda like a lion about to jump off or being mad to catch his prey.. 🙂 ..

I hadn’t had a lesson for over a year and it’s very hard for me to keep up with him. He only did 30 minutes since I was the only one.

When I got home, everyone’s sleeping. Lord, that’s some life.

A mile

I haven’t done the miler for a while, maybe in a year or so? I wasn’t thinking of doing it either when I hit the water. The pool was somewhat empty. I shared the lane with two girls. In the beginning they were good, stayed out of my way. Then after 20 laps or so, they became increasingly annoying. Waited at the end then go right before I turned. I had to passed them repeatedly. After the 40-lap, I finally asked the lifeguard to tell them, well, get lost. They did. Moved to two lanes away from me.

During my 10 breasts and 10 backs a lady joined me. She’s really a great swimmer. Little out of shape, but looked like a swimmer 🙂 and very handsome. We need more of her in the pool !! She had short hair cut and crispy strokes, very pretty strokes. What’s heck, I decided to chase after her instead of leaving; so I piled on 12 more laps of free. 72 that’s it. A mile.
At the end, she suggested that I shouldn’t raise my arms so high and hitting the water flat handed.
“Waste of energy.”
She’s right.
Urrrrrr .. correcting the old habbit isn’t easy.
Next time.
Ha, that means I might improve my time IF I correct it?

In the locker room I ran into these two annoying girls and wondering what they do for a living: they just stood there comparing bras and undies. Bar girls? Their accents were pretty hicky.

What’s heck, I got my miler today, and nothing could damp my spirit. Not even the snowy weather. I can take on the world. I’m high :).

Geting high

Driving Pumpkin to school we heard on the radio that Michael Phelps admits ‘bad judgment’ after a British newspaper published a photograph of the swimmer smoking a marijuana pipe. W-h-a-t-‘s the big deal here? Marijuana is different from opium/heroin/cocaine or any other recreational drugs that I couldn’t name. Not saying he should, but just wondering doesn’t swimming get him high? It does to me. The thrilling feeling after 40 some laps is just no competition from any other activity, not even tennis.

As to getting caught, pls give the kid a break from time to time, will you all? Don’t scrutinize him down to minute all the time. But on the other hand, he’s been spending so much of his teenage and adulthood in the water, he probably doesn’t yet know what the life is all about and finding that fit into the real world is far more challenging than the long-hour spend in the aquatic utopia daily. Find that balance, and haul another truckload of gold home in 2012, King Michael 🙂

A birthday

A heart-warming birthday party for Lisa who has many, many very, very interesting friends. Long time friends. Unfortunately, I had to leave early cause the tennis this morning. Ouuuu rrr .. It turned out the game started at 7am, instead 6am I thought it was. John and I played Alex and Phoebe. Oh lord, that’s a mistake. I was like a zombie and didn’t realize the danger till Alex began firing his lethal shot at me. At Me! I held my little heart by my mouth. Did Golfer send him to cash out my life insurance? 🙂 Irene/Wah/Sunny also booked at 7. But the USTA staff had them down for 7pm! Thank lord they stick around and got to play.

Happy Chinese New Year, the Niu Year

The Year of Ox, happy 牛 Niu Year.

I played 3 sets, and lost them all. The guys, all the bad boys just won’t give me a break. Oh boy. 🙂 Great games guys .. Thanks. The 4th set we were on serve but unfortunately time ran out.

Kids had mid term (why does the school have the mid term on the Chinese New Year?) and came home early. Pumpkin said with a poker face,
“So Mom, you got up at 6 .. ” Needn’t to say more.

On the way out of the tennis center, few of us were talking about a regular game on a weekday AM at da USTA. I was too quick to say yes. My right ankle wasn’t 100% since 12/5 at the parking lot at the pool. My forehand was tender. I only served 1 set. Last Friday I served for the entire 2 hours. Alex and I against Andy and Kevin. We did just fine. .. .. IF I want to play the full summer season, I probably best to rest bit more? No? Not playing hurts even more. 烧包 .. I could always go to swim !! But somehow, it differs from tennis.

Two Fridays ago, I visited a tui na – massage – Mr. Sun whom I visited few times prior. Telling the gentleman that here and there hurt and I have game to play .. .. .. so he asked if it’s a tourney, tournament.
“No, it isn’t. It’s just a regular game.”
I don’t think a sane person could or would understand.

Vanderbilt YMCA

Passing by this Y (224 E 47th Street, between 2nd and 3rd Ave), I couldn’t help but to go in. King went in with me. I used to swim there, pre-King era. Now he’s taller, much taller than I’m .. .. Time never flies.

The pool is still the same, even I joked if they had move it, because the lobby had changed: a gym had added .. once open area now looks like a box cutter.

52 Pick-Up ?

Mar 18, 2010Flsuhing Meadow pool on Mar 18, 2010

Today must be the bad hair day. I felt like a dead meat in the pool. I was tired when I entered the water and feeling tired when I counted the 22nd laps and was dragging myself at 38th laps. I normally feel energized by 8th laps or so. But my limbs were too heavy for me today. .. But I managed the 40 straight and did an additional 12.

Think of Phelps swims every day! Some time the moment I hit the water, I felt ephemeral although I never smoke or inhale .. but hey, I could read 🙂 .. and others would be like today .. uninspiring.

The swimming pool in Flushing has improved a little but the young lady isn’t there any more, -:(.  I found people are, over all, bit more courteous. Perhaps the time of the year.

NASCAR in New York

The NASCAR has some royalty coming .. .. at 42nd Street @ Lexington .. few fans were waiting out side. The fans are mostly blonde and chubby. .. .. errrrr I was not among them, cause I was busy groupie another idol.

NASCAR took of in the USA like wild fire out of control, burning bright in the south. Golfer took me to a race in Bethlehem, PA, the Andretti territory. The fans would arrive hours early to watch the pomp and circumstance; floats, parade .. We used to the short exits on LIE only to find out each exits on that highway in Pennsylvania was about 12 miles apart. We timed ourselves to be there on time for the actual race. After conquered the three long 3 exits and got into the parking lot, and found a place to actual park, made to the stand, the race was already underway.
Oh lord, it was loud.
The all white fans around us eyed us suspiciously. Many of them perhaps never saw an Asian before .. JK .. coolers, beers, .. when it was finally over, we were stranded in the parking lot for another 3 hours, because everyone proceeded to have their tailgate party in the lot.

The match .. King Michael

Tonight’s 60 Minutes has a feel good interview: Anderson Cooper on Michael Phelps. They had a race in the pool: Cooper did free style while Phelps did dolphin kicks in one breathe. I don’t think any one would have a doubt as who won that race. Any way, I found Cooper to be pretty cool and now he’s super cool .. .. for his ability to swim free style in style. Does Phelps remind you of Eli Manning? Michael’s Mom works as a school principal who got emotional when Cooper told her that her son thinks the world of her. And the kid who trained every day for years that included his birthdays and Christmas to reach that 8 Golds in Beijing. Not to mention the 6 Golds he amassed in Athens in 2004.

Sosososo not fair .. Tooo tooo tooo bad that New York lost out to London for 2012’s. Did Bush cost New York its chance? The isle of Manhattan would have rocked for Michael!! !! Well, he’ll be the king of England no matter what.
