A hard fought win

With Randi, we won 6-3, 7-6 7-5. v Punni and Graham, who’s still in the cloud.

I’ve an unbelievably large number of double faults, both over- and underhand. No one held their serve for the first four games in the first set. My single-handed backhand cross-court drop shot by the net won the tie break, finally, especially in light of my drop shots not working for the past few days.

… lost my serve

Victoria Mboko, 2006

Victoria Mboko (2006.8.26-; ? $1,256,948) is heavily touted on women’s tour lately, rising from 300+ to seeded 22 player at US Open 2025.

She wore a red outfit that looks smarshingly smart and beaufiul. However, she didn’t play well …

I’m happy that Barbora Krejcikova has won. The match looks lame, no fighting spirit – perhaps not needed: Mboko has double digit double faults.

An orange skies

An orange red sky: beautiful!

Tennis 6-1, 3-6.

My dropshots didn’t work well today. So Jing said, “I love your forehand!” How nice she put it that way -:)

My serve still has the waiters tray

Rainbow and downpour

The day starts out nice. I see the sandhill cranes by the pond, again. Then there is a raibow.

Then came the rain. Drizzle first. Raindrops. Then the downpour.

🎾 1-6, 4-3 w/ a break

From rainbow to downpour
从彩虹到倾盆大雨
彻底灭了继续的幻想

第一局差点被鸡蛋了.
今天准备齐全 不过腕带令到胳膊骤短
没啥空间可言了

Wilson: utc Sarasota

140 University Town Center Dr #245,
Sarasota, FL 34243

Google Maps

Will return for the good old-fashioned salesmanship. Buying online for too long, I do appreciate the knowledge the gentleman at the shop provides: thank you.

It’s the back-to-school tax holiday in Florida now. The store is pleasant, well lighted, and the merchandises are neatly placed.

This store is one of 16 or 18 Wilson stores in the country, which was opened in May 2025 because of the popularity of tennis in the area. IMG Academy is here.

They don’t have the US Open 2025 merchandise yet, other than the bag. I bought a few outfits at the US Open in Flushing in the past, and most or all of them were not yet rolled out in the stores.

I don’t know which players are sponsored by Wilson. The gent said, the quality of the clothing, Wilson is above Nike and Nike is above Under Armour.

They’ve hot pink/red jacket that looks like Lululemon’s.

One of the rackets, with a light aqua color, is very pretty. So I picked it up. He, instead, introduced a neon dark blue one that is less than 10 oz: it has power, control, and spin. Oh so good … I didn’t buy, only because I’m still happy with my two old Babolat: red white Roland Garros (2011 after Li Na won the French Open), and blue black Pure Drive Team, which is a hand me down.

The shrimp player

Today, our next court has six elderly men who rotate. One of them has a severe hunchback. This photo showed him in a better posture.

Two thoughts.

I admire him and them for still getting out there and hitting the balls: would I be still playing at his age? Hopefully!

Two, I had played against a solid 4.0 player who served like shrimp but had a straight back; who looks like PhD comedian Joe Wong (黄西, 1970-): skinny, glasses, poker face.

Ok, to my tennis:

  1. w/ Punni, 0-5
  2. w/ Matt, 5-1
  3. w/ Cheri, 4-5

US Open 2025, on tv

Today is the first day of qualifying round, of the last slam of 2025.

I watch it a lot on TV: from plays to controversies to fashion.

A few heartbreaking: Ben Shelton, Taylor Townsend, …

A few controversies, Jelena Ostapenko told Taylor Townsend that she has no educaton, no class, after losing 5 and 1 in the 2nd round. What a sour loser. She apologized later, but the damage has done, to herself.

After losing to Elena Rybakina 1 and 2 in the 3rd round, Emma Raducanu said in her press conference that top players raise their game when they play her. WHAT A JOKE! She’s no Serena, posing no threat to anyone. So dilutional. I bet she’s a one slamer.

A few players from countries that we normally don’t see often:

  • Hong Kong: Coleman Wong (2004-; ? $590,724)
  • Andorra: Victoria Kasintseva (2005-; 2020, $641,136)
  • Indunesia: Janice Tjen (2002-; 2018, $82,632)
  • Estonia: Mark Lajal (2003-; ? $465,198)
  • Zhang Shuai (1989-; 2003, $11,095,562) starts from the qualying round

Today’s qualifying round:

  • Christopher Eubanks (1996-; 2017, $3,659,441) lost to Marco Trungelliti (1990-; 2008, $1,990,862)
  • Gao Xinyu (高馨妤 1997-; 2014, $419,709) lost to Petra Marcinko
  • Bernarde Pera (1994-; 2014, $4,992,540) lost to Emerson Jones
  • YH Hsu (许育修, 1999-; ? $695,165) lost to Frncesco Passaro

Eubanks is pretty exciting to watch: a single-handed backhand who charges the net. Wish him all the luck, and hopefully see him soon.

Dr. Scott, the acupuncture

I finally went to acupuncture for my left arm, since early June. At registation, the sheet asks for two problems – I guess they only treat two prolbem per visit?

Dr. Scott is a Caucasian in his 40s (?), sporting a crew cut, he’s personable, asks about my problems and the history of my health, inlcuded if I’ve acupuncture before. (Yes, in NY) I’ve three problems but he said, he’ll do the first two, and leave the third for next time.

He said he leart his craft in Chicago. When he looks for a spot to insert the needle, he uses his fingers to measure. I debated if to kid him – like – “hey Dr, do you need a measuring tape?!”

After the needles were inserted, my NY acupuncture would have his staff to connect the stumulant machine – electroacupuncture – to each or many of the needles with the clips, then left me for the next 15 minutes or so.

Dr. Scott uses a handheld gadget that clearily need some TLC or cajoling – perhaps a new battery? He did ask me if I’ve used electroacupuncture before, I said yes and described the above scene. He said he has the large machine with clips too. Whatever works, I guess?

Waiting at doctor’s office, to get needled.

So we were down 0-3 and I was serving underhand at 30-40, and double fault. I don’t know underhand serve can make a mistake. But that’s me. I didn’t know why did we lost four straight games and have no idea how we won the next six.
The second set with Matt, I was serving at 1-2 and lost the game. From 1-3, we claw back to 5-4 but Matt failed to serve it out. Oh well.

Monday laugh: I didn’t know sweat from arms could trickle down to my palms. Today I constantly dry my palm but next minute, I find not only my hands were sweaty/wet but my tennis racket handle is wet  … laugh all you want – I’m laughing too.

Me 钝?

Sandhill cranes, again

Two days in a row, a pair of sandhill cranes is by the pond @ sunrise.

Played regular two sets,  with Deb 2-6 and Pun 2-6; Cheri has to go, so no third set.

I felt pretty flat, probably back to back tennis isn’t for me anymore.

…hmmm… one serve

Two sandhill cranes 沙丘鹤

Sunrise. A pair of sandhill cranes 沙丘鹤 by the pond.

I played well, till someone retired.

~ w/ Matt 5-1
~ w/ Brad 2-5
~ w/ Mike 2-3 on serve

Michael doesn’t play often.

I served first and played a very clean game.

My left arm looks useless in my singlehand backhand.

After heavy rain, the fences look like having screen or barrier, impeding visibility. The tables and chairs have poddles as well.
