Walter Lure & The Waldos

waldoWaldo’s 3rd world tour [Kalifornia] is coming up ..
– 8/27 at Hollywood
– 8/28 Huntington Beach
– 8/29 San Diego

Hey, Waldo, are you going to fly us out there to attend? I’ll get my red carpet dress ready 🙂 and be sure to say that I like rock n roll and can rock too
.. So no 4-some that weekend? no singles either, I take?
Longevity comes to mind, because most rockers either died of overdose, or died drunk and overdose ..
I think Waldo even quit smoking.
Hey, W, come out to play with us at the park near you on Friday evenings. I need a partner since all the 3.5 boys are off to Syracuse.

I’ll have to admit that many wives just have it sweeter and rosier than Irene. Like the couple I mentioned earlier, the wife never stops criticizing her hubby, while he’s in action and off the court. Once Simon couldn’t take it any more, told her to be quiet because
“Your husband had tried his best .. give him a break ..”
And the hubby still plays tennis. With her.

Irene?
I hand Golfer his sleepers when he comes home
Takes his briefcase
Make him his favored martini, dry with three olives
My eyes were always cast down when I speak to him
I’m always so humble
If he wants steak for dinner, I wouldn’t dare to even look at pork
If he says north, I don’t dare to even venture toward northeast
I never muttered a word on or off the court
about his play …
Yet
Golfer has defected to golf for the past countable years and never once picked up tennis .. ok once in Hilton Head, out of pity, he played on the Center Court at Sea Pines ..

Melanie Oudin the Georgia Peach

I never wasted a minute to say that I don’t like Jelena Jankovic, here is one more why …

After losing, Jankovic was ungraciously moved to suggest that Oudin isn’t one of them. As I said, the women do not quite reach the model comportment level of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Jankovic’s excuse was that she was wobbly from the heat — she required two medical timeouts — and the cyclical nature of “some woman problems.”

There are world number one players who have won slams – plenty of it – and, there are two recently minted #1 players who have yet to produce one … Geeeeeee … don’t they remind me of Jim Kelly (the QB of the Buffalo Bills): bridemaids. Gone to slam or Superbowl few times but never won one.

Btw, Irene doesn’t have ‘some woman problems’ … It’s beyong me that she complains about it, competing at that level and blames girlie stuff? ISn’t Oudin a woman? To cite woman problem may suitable when you are facing a man, logically? What are the woman prbolems? Man has bad hair days too. Sour loser is more like it. Anyway … Glad to see Melanie Oudina, a 17 years old American is rising. You go girl … Take the world.

6 sets

From Russia friends with love: bitter medicines tested and proven.

If one loves something so much, she’ll do it under any circumstance. I’ve been playing with pains for a while. My caring and concerned buddies have given me many remedies. The only problem is: will they work for me?

Any way, I played 6 sets, 2 wins and 4 losses. Took 2 showers, finished the Times and got dinner ready. Now taking few minutes to blog before my guests arrive.

My ankle will never heal.

First game started at 6am. William and Ding looked hungry and all business, 气势汹汹 qishi xiongxiong -fierce. Josh and I surrendered the first set at 6:1. We changed site, and got a bagel (W and D did not get us lox, cheapos). Changed side again, got another hot dog. The fourth set was on serve @ 2:2 when time was up. Josh wanted to continue out door. I just wanted a hot shower.

While I was grocery shopping in Flushing, Jonathan called at 10:30 asking where I was. Darn, I did say I’d come to play last night. So I rushed there to play again. Was I nuts or what? I don’t know. No asking Irene.

So Irene teamed up with Simon played against Jonathan and Bob. Simon got his game at love, and Jonathan was down at 15:40 when I missed an easy overhead. The first set went to them, 6:2.

I wasn’t terribly down at that point even my ankle was bothering me but not to a point that I wanted to quit. So to compensate my limited movement, I used my brain a little; got ready for each shot and turned my shoulders .. the whole 9 yards. We were 4:0 then eventually took the second set at 6:2. And third set at 6:2 also.

Paul Lin came for the real game. He said, “Wow, you improved a lot, now you get to play with me.” Ha ha ha ha.. and he went on to ask, “what else would she have worked so hard for?” Actually with the Sunday morning group, Paul as well as Wah were always in high demand, and other players would juggle hard to play with them.

Friday I teamed up with John and played Phyllis and Clay. We had set a team then. John and Phyllis had to leave. So Power and I played against Larry and Clay. They were so sarcastic and let us went to 5:1 then tighten the screw. Beaten us at 5:7. They were pretty funny and made me laugh so much till it hurt. The friendly games were competitive but still differ from the USTA’s league. Hmmmm… the league .. na, not now.

Yesterday afternoon Simon practiced with me for nearly an hour, on volley and lob. When Benny came, we started mixed doubles game against SAndy – Sandy and Andy. Few years ago in a tourney, Albert and I defeat SAndy and then Chris and Eric to take the trophy home. But now SAndy are so much better. Don’t think Albert and I would have a chance. So back to the game. We were down at 1:3 and then caught up at 3:3, Benny told me, “they won’t take another game from us.”

Benny is type of guy who would tell you he could get you a good deal practically anywhere. When I first met him few years ago, on court. He had a clear plastic box that contained 6 or 12 cans of tennis balls.
“Where did you get it?” I asked because the cans were rolling around in my truck in disarray.
“I got it from Costco.” He replied.
“I should go and buy.” I said out loud.
“I can get you a good deal on it.” He said.
Of course he never followed it up 🙂

At 3:3, Sandy needed to go to the girl’s room.

Tony came.

So it’s boys’ game. Tony teamed with Andy against Simon and Benny. We were just some groupies. The seriousness was in the air. I seldom heard Simon say s-h-i-t but he said it a lot yesterday. And there were tense moments. The Israeli and the Singaporean were often disagreed. There were many light moments when we laugh. Both teams (8.0) had the chance to win if they played it right and well. The first set went to the Israeli/Singaporean. Second set went to Tony/Andy. I left at 6pm when they started the third set.

Tony often took up the entire court as if he’s playing singles. I think his joy at playing tennis is the apparent pressure not the pleasure. He always seemed tense. But again, who am I to criticize when I am always on the losing end? I probably should start to put some seriousness and pressure on myself. Maybe I am really afraid to lose, so I tell myself that I just want to have a good game? Loser.

San Francisco Loses at Badminton

Outmatched by an 86-Year-Old! Look at that.

I haven’t been playing badminton since last December when I twisted my right ankle at the parking lot of the pool. Now although I’m good enough to play tennis, but I’m trying to conserve, so no badminton for the time being. Ouuuuch ..

SAN FRANCISCO — In a time when governments across the country are raising every manner of fee to battle nasty budget deficits, one 86-year-old man here drew the line.

Ed Leong decided to fight City Hall over badminton. And, soon, City Hall found it too hard to fight Ed Leong.

That’s it?

That’s it for the Cardinals? The 100 yard interception touch down by the Steelers? It’s only half time. If the Cardinals made to the Super Bowl last year they would have played on home turf. Oh well .. ..

Avon does commercial on Super Bowl. Hmmmmmmmmm .. Andrea Jung is doing well, especially when job market is so bleak. Long time ago I had an opportunity to interview her, but didn’t pursue it. My bad.

Budweiser (Anheuser-Busch)’s commercials are always good and enjoyable. Now they’re not even owned by the Americans .. errr .. by the Belgians. Hey how come I didn’t see the America beer drinkers took to the street for the globalization like the Frenchies?

We’re having hot pot dinner for the super bowl party, washing it down with Charles Krug‘s 2004 Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon. Very yummmy.. ..

Anyone saw Roger Federer cry? Between him and Nadal, I’ll take Roger any time .. But sorry I like Sampras more and his record is still intact ..

Hamilton Makes Formula One History

Wow .. Lewis Hamilton of McLaren became Formula One’s youngest champion on Sunday. It didn’t mention his race. A black man just won the F-1, and US might get it first black president tomorrow. Did anyone get this Political Call fm (202) 495-7107?

Giants wiped out the Cowboys yesterday – five TDs.  Ding and I had rather even match with Irene and Wah zai and nearly stole a set from them: we had the set point at 5:4 and 40:15. I missed an easy put away at the net – I took my eyes off the ball, ended up lost the set at 7:5. We were losing 4:0 in the first set and fought back hard, forcing a tie break but lost it at 7:4.

I don’t want to diminish or insult anyone’s effort/talent/drive, but Wah zai doesn’t play 100% when he dumbs down with me or us because he tries to make the game. He and Irene teases each other a lot and from time to time as if they’re playing in their own zone which is pretty cute and cozy. But they’re nice about it and don’t make others feeling extra or left out, which is great. It reminded me of an incident on a train in Hong Kong, two young lovers were making out and tipped over a cup of tea that spilled on my jeans. An older stranger sat next to me told them to stop and apologize.
“Your hot tea bunred this miss.”
The young couple did not flinch. .. .. I could not picture myself being with anyone who’s so inconsiderate and well, rude.

Btw, Irene laughed and accused me of 拍马屁 kissing up to Wah zai when she heard the 100% theory. Licking someone’s boots .. hmmmm .. Am I so talented and capable of kissing up?? Hey, I’ll take this as a compliment, :).

All have a great week!

NFL’s Steelers, Packers ..

Last year Giants played Miami Dolphins, and yesterday the New Orleans Saints played the San Diego Chargers at London’s Wembley Stadium again.

The names for the pro teams are sometimes baffling. Chargers? How about letting the Steelers play the Packers in London? The Europeans sure would have a field day. Jaguars, Panthers .. sound so much better. Was there an Oilers? What’s happened to it?

..

Anyway, Giants won yesterday. They were behind most of the time, but never looked out of control. I ate 6 crabs while watching.. They’ll play the Cowboys (nice name) next Sunday. Eating time again.

Fashionistas or recessionista ..

Giants is playing the Steelers .. both are first place team, both are 5:1. So it’s an important game.

What a gorgeous autumn day!! If any of you haven’t gone out, you’re missing a lot. Quick, head over to the court, Wah Zai is waiting: I teamed up with him and Irene with William. Wah bragged that he’ll serve his little darling Irene double fried eggs. 🙂 Ended up we lost first set in a blink: 6:1. Then Wah wondered ..

Now how can I leave the court .. ” 🙂

I lose all the time, will have no problem leaving .. not sure about him .. he might still be there.

It was really a good match. We ended up 2 sets a piece. Had quite few long rallies. It was very relaxing and enjoyable.

I looked like a congar out there with Pumpkin’s pants – told them not to take picture of me who dressed like a clown.  It’s a recession time, 🙂 got to wear what I have been handed up/down.  I inherited few jeans from King too.  I didn’t realize that boy/man’s pockets are really deep or long.  I wear Golfer’s sweater too .. .. I’m cheap 🙂

Open shoulder

This slow motion shows Nadal’s muscles during a serve.  It’s unbelievable.

I often heard that to get a better serve you need to open up your shoulder more.  I think I know what does it mean.  I don’t always open up my shoulder when I serve.  It is a hard work.  Playing a better game requires more mental and physical efforts.

I know how to play a lazy game (or swim lazily) or a hard fought game.  It’s hard to put up a fierce fight every time when I get out on the court.  Because my mood is different, my opponent/partner could be different.  The weather affects me .. many factors.  For a pro, those shouldn’t be a factor.

Doesn’t it sound like in life, no one could go on high strung for ever.  So you pick you battle and choose your war.  Sometimes you go all the way and others you only spend 80% or 90% of your energy for task.  110% effort doesn’t guarantee you the result – still came up short.  Timing and luck do play a roll.

I’m trying to get to the 3.5 or 4.0 level, but haven’t.  I didn’t try harder.  My mental toughness isn’t always there.

One day waking up on the cruise, I found my left shoulder was in pain.  Though it would go away in a few hours.  But it stayed.  I have no problem to swim but have trouble to serve and play double hand backhand.  Actually we got back home on an over night flight and I went to play tennis as soon as I got home.  I forgot totally about my painful shoulder.  On my first backhand, it hurt so much I almost screamed.  Now I’m making do with single hand bh.  Passable but without the power.

I was quite happy at yesterday’s win at badminton.  Can’t play with the girls with my left hand for the time being.

Cross marketing or what? Pianoman wears Adidas. I bet Lang has a lucrative contract than Yuan Meng.  Where is Yundi Li?
